Sports Integrated Dry Needling
The sports extension version of the courses incorporates the Integrated Dry Needling Level 1 and 2 material  and includes sports injury specific variants of the material in the Integrated Dry Needling programme. The clinical reasoning material that is included in Integrated Dry Needling but not in the Sports extension will be available as  short paid online courses.

You will come away from this course with the skills to achieve great results using dry needling with all of your patients, as well as extra ideas on how you can use dry needling with your sporting patients.

Sports Integrated Dry Needling Level 1  is on developing and applying Integrated Dry Needling skills in the periphery and on the treatment of acute soft tissue and ligament injuries. We also address fantastic ways to determine the extent to which abnormal impulses from the spine are contributing  movement dysfunction in the periphery and the wider the clinical presentation. We look the clinical reasoning processes to determine  how peripheral treatment may affect spinal dysfunction and  when unloading the spine through treatment of the peripheral is not only an option but essential.

In Integrated Dry Needling Level 2 skills required to directly treat spinal movement dysfunction are developed and the injury discussion moves towards the treatment of overuse injuries such as cervical spine and lumbar spine pain and overuse injuries in the periphery.

Both levels emphasise skilled palpation, movement assessment and clinical reasoning and there are presentations and course work covering  these areas to provide the framework for the application of the dry needling skills developed.
Using the gentle dry needling techniques revealed on the course, you will discover how to apply your new needling skills in the periphery, and in the treatment of acute soft tissue and ligament injuries.
Address your patients pain and optimise their movement with techniques that work quickly and comfortably to improve pain and range of movement. Increase the time and mental energy you have to teach your patients new movement strategies, and progress their rehab, loading or strengthening program. Unlike other dry needling approaches, your patients will be happy to receive this gentle style of dry needling as part of their treatment.
Adverse neurophysiological load on the system, due to an increase in training intensity or poor biomechanics, can result in tissue irritation and pain. Integrated Dry Needling is a unique dry needling approach that addresses this tissue irritation and pain by resolving movement barriers, optimising movement efficiency and normalising tissue loading. Using a range of versatile and refined needling techniques to stimulate change, you can alter the tissue irritability and immediately improve range of movement and pain.
You will learn to locate irritated tissue in the course, with a non provocative examination process incorporating light palpation, skilled tissue sensitivity testing, movement analysis and neurodynamic assessment.
Integrated Dryneedling techniques are gentler than those used in other approaches. This has obvious benefits for both patient and practitioner such as increased comfort and reduced risk of adverse outcomes.
The gentle needling techniques allow you to incrementally increase the level of stimulation provided, so that you can tailor your treatment dosage to each patient. This means the known issues with trigger point needling of non response and over stimulation are almost eliminated in an Integrated Dryneedling treatment.

Integrated Dry Needling  provides a logical, well reasoned approach to clinical presentations where a degree of central sensitisation may exist and “trigger point” type tissue reactions are absent or difficult to locate and also a way to access acute soft tissue injuries which are contra-indicated in other dry needling approaches.

Enrolment on this course also includes access to online preparation for the SportIntegrated Dry Needling courses, and an Integrated Dry Needling Support chat forum and Knowledge Base

You will receive instructions on how to access this following your enrolment on the course.

You will learn:
• A non provocative examination incorporating light palpation, skilled tissue sensitivity testing, movement analysis and neurodynamic assessment
• To locate irritated tissue that is involved in the patients current pain and restriction of movement
• A variety of different needling techniques, only taught in the SIDN course
• How to apply needling techniques in the treatment of acute soft tissue and ligament injuries
• How to immediately improve range of movement and pain
• Safe and effective needling of the upper and lower limbs
• How to incorporate needling into your rehabilitation program or loading/strengthening programs
• Safe needling and a competency assessment of needling the thoracic cage
• How to incorporate dry needling into your clinical practice immediately
• How to incorporate dry needling in specific sports injury situations, for example:
• acute ankle lateral ligament sprains,
• acute calf injuries
• offloading reactive tendinopathies
• neural irritation masquerading as a hamstring injury
• acromioclavicular joint injury
• “corked” thigh
• other acute and chronic peripheral pain and dysfunction

This course meets the insurance requirements to perform dry needling as a Physiotherapist, Osteopath and Chiropractor in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Following the course, you will be able to use dry needling immediately in your clinical practice.
Pre-requisites
The prerequisites for entry to the Integrated Dry Needling or Sports Integrated Dry Needling training programme are a Bachelor Degree (including a major in  Anatomy) in one of the health sciences with an emphasis on manual therapy and orthopaedic and manual musculoskeletal medicine.

Suitable pre-requisites are:

Physiotherapy
Chiropractic
Osteopathy
Myotherapy
Massage therapists
Sports Physician and Medicine
Podiatrists and Hand Therapists are also eligible to register and find the approach integrates well used within their specific scope of practice.

Due to APA requirements, students are not able to attend this course until studies are completed and registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) is obtained.
Physiotherapists and other approved professions from countries other than Australia are eligible to attend the course, however we recommend you have a letter from your insurance company specifically stating you are covered to perform dry needling on other participants of the course in Australia, for the dates of the course.
Naturopaths, nurses, exercise physiologists and human movement graduates are not eligible to attend this course, due to the SID program’s advanced manual therapy emphasis, and are recommended to study one of the simpler trigger point based approaches to dry needling.Pregnant women are unable to attend SIDN.
Please do not enrol on this course if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant after enrolling on the course, please contact the course host immediately so we can transfer you to a course after you have had your baby.
